Tennessee Tech was picked the preseason favorite in the OVC-Big South Preseason Poll this season. It marked the first time since 1978 the program was picked first in the poll. Tech opens the 2025 season by hosting Cumberland, the first of three-straight home games for the team.

Among the team's returning players is graduate defensive back Tim Coutras who has been tabbed a Preseason All-American by multiple outlets. He is also one of 30 players on the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List; the award is given to the top defensive player in the FCS. Coutras finished the 2024 season with 59 total tackles – 46 solo and 13 assisted – with three tackles-for-loss for 12 yards. He also forced two fumbles, intercepted three passes for 30 yards and broke up eight passes.

Senior linebacker Aaron Swafford played in 11 games last season, finishing with 66 total tackles on the year, including 11 against Charleston Southern. Among his 30 solo stops and 36 assists, Swafford was also credited for 7.5 tackles-for-loss for 23 yards and two sacks for 11 yards. He also forced two fumbles and broke up a pass.

On the offensive side of the ball the team welcomes Eastern Washington quarterback transfer Kekoa Visperas. Last season he threw for 2,171 yards and 17 touchdowns, while also rushing for 375 yards and nine more trips into the end zone. He finished the season with a 74.3-percent passing rate – leading both the Big Sky Conference and the Football Championship Subdivision.
